Though only recognised recently, binge eating is thought to be the most common eating disorder. Sufferers eat huge amounts of food but, unlike bulimics, they don't try to get rid of it through laxatives, exercise or vomiting. They often eat very quickly until they feel uncomfortably full, even if they're not hungry.
1 in 10 binge eaters are obese, which is the major health risk of binge eating.
The most obvious sign of binge eating is weight gain. Sufferers also tend to feel guilt and anxiety, and may hide food packaging to disguise their problem.
